Boosting Police Training Infrastructure: Global Support Strengthens Nigeria's Police Colleges
In a significant stride towards enhancing the capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force, the Global Security-Sector-Reform Foundation (GS-Foundation) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding from the Federal Republic of Germany, have delivered crucial resources. The Inspector General of Police, represented by DIG Frank Emeka Mba, received printed training manuals, curriculum materials, office furniture, fittings, and equipment for three Police Colleges and one Training School.
This initiative is a pivotal component of the Federal Government of Nigeria's ongoing police reform project. The donation caters to the needs of Police colleges in Oji River, Maiduguri, Kaduna, and Ilorin, aiming to provide vital support for optimal training environments.
Ambassador Annett Günter of the Federal Republic of Germany, Matthias Seeger, Project Manager and Team Lead of the GS-Foundation in Nigeria, and Simon Ridley, UNDP's Chief Technical Advisor on Rule of Law and Human Rights, were present to facilitate the donation process. They commended the dedication and professionalism of the Nigerian Police, emphasizing that the provision of modern items and advanced IT equipment enhances their work, contributing significantly to community security and operational efficiency.
Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, underscored the importance of well-equipped police colleges in driving the reform agenda. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration, highlighting that the donation would bolster optimal training platforms in Oji River, Maiduguri, Kaduna, and Ilorin, as well as other training facilities of the NPF already supported by the GS-Foundation and the German Government.
